The advantage to unemployment is finally having the time to visit museums and other cultural institutions that are generally only open when you are working. That is what I did today, parking my bicycle at the Wadsworth and walking the rest.
(Clicking on the first photo will then allow you to scroll through the rest of them.)
Awesome new hat at the Wadsworth Atheneum.
One of my favorites (Wadsworth Atheneum).
Entirely made of toothpicks! (Wadsworth Atheneum)
One of the Wadsworth’s new acquisitions, and despite my distaste for lobster, definitely added to my list of favorites.
Sam Colt commissioned this when his son was born. It is carved from a piece of the Charter Oak. I don’t think it looks very comfortable (Wadsworth Atheneum).
This girl looks so much like my neighbor, Jeanine, that while I was growing up I thought Rockwell had actually painted her. This was compounded by the fact her family had a copy in their bathroom (Wadsworth Atheneum).
I no longer remember if it was this Dali or a similar one that was printed in my 9th grade Spanish textbook. Regardless, being able to see the real deal is what clued my teenage mind into the importance of the Wadsworth.
Alexander Calder’s “Stegosaurus” on Burr Mall, a Hartford favorite. If you know where to look in the background, you can also see the onion dome over at the Colt complex.
Beautiful gardens at the Butler-McCook House, maintained by the West Hartford Garden Club.
Not much going on at the Charter Oak Cultural Center today.
I made it through the first week of #funemployment2012. There was house cleaning, time in coffee shops, work on a continuing project, bicycling, and today I just relaxed and enjoyed the city.
Great photos, and you’ve visited many of my favorite places.
